Just When You Thought It was Safe to Visit Minnesota

The Matron lives in Bachmann Land. Now, the Matron could link ABC instead (go to youtube and you'll find the official news) but these guys seem like more fun.

Anyhow the person in question would be Minnesota Congresswoman, Michele Bachmann. She makes Sarah Palin seems like a stalwart progressive. If a progressive can be stalwart?

Is it surprising that both women are startling pretty and somehow intelligent policy makers, yet some Americans probably tried to emigrate to France over Hillary Clinton's thighs and pantsuits.

Folks here in Minnesota have been entertained, horrified and, well, baffled, by Bachmann for several years. But she's pretty. The thought of her as one of the -- if not the -- emerging Republican presidential frontrunner(s)?

Hmmm . . . just a minute. The Matron must run and fill out that paperwork for her city block to secede from the nation.

I read a comment on a thread somewhere that laughing at Bachmann (which is what one must do to avoid crying) is highly dangerous. Plenty of Germans laughed at the idea of Hitler getting elected until it happened.

I am despairing.

See, I have read the opposite theory to Jenn's. Can't remember the article but it was about the Klu Klux Klan and saying how it was by laughing publicly and satirising it that the group lost some of its aura of power and headed down the path of ridicule.

I'm with Jenn: alarmed by the Republicans, including but not limited to, Bachmann. I know too many people who support her positions and cheer her. Since secession isn't going to save us, it's clear we have a lot of work to do between now and November 2012. Not despairing though, because I'm comforted by knowing there are people like this community of the Matron and her readers all over the country.

Just read this and it's so good. Light, pithy: I am so sick of the heavy handed writing and commentary on some blogs. And your take on Hilary's pantsuits - that's all they talk about!
OK, I'll breathe and stop ranting.

I challenge Anonymous to write her own blog and sign her name to it. C'mon, put it out there! Then we can complain about you or enjoy your writing and be inspired.

My elder son, age 26 and one of my gurus, says that Bachmann is way too crazy to endure an actual presidential (or vice-presidential) campaign. She might start out strong, but the continual stress and the constant prodding by the media would eventual bring out her crazy. And she would self-destruct in full public view.

I cannot tell you how relieved I was when he said that.
