In Which the Matronly Ecosystem has Been Officially, Restructured

Yesterday, the Matron heard this dire ditty on the radio --

Imagine attractive male voice

"Construction workers in the X neighborhood have broken a gas line.  Residents are being evacuated, including those in a nearby nursing home.    Officials fear an explosion."

Then she heard actual sirens, because guess what?  She lives in Neighborhood X.  Thankfully, hers was not one of the houses that had to be evacuated nor did anyone or anything explode, but the Matron was all like:  OF COURSE there would be a potential explosion down her block.   She's the center of attention, focusing on her own self and all,  but she sometimes wonders why her life seems to attract so much drama!

Trust her.  She hasn't even told the back story.  She's sort of afraid to.  (should she spill some more beans?)  So she was pondering said back story and the drama swirling in her wake yesterday.

Today?

John took the wan and feverish (since Sunday) Merrick to the doctor and mentioned that Merrick's heart seemed to have developed a little tic, like a gallop to the beat.  The doctor heard it too.  And since nobody's noticed it during five years of Well Child check ups (the Matron forgot this year!), he's assuming it's a new development.

John and Merrick left the doctor's office with a 'negative' on the strep test and orders for a swift visit to a pediatric cardiologist at the University of Minnesota.   The Big Guns.

And even though she knows it's probably all going to be okay, the Matron is crying as she types this.  Just a little.

Addendum

Appointment is Monday morning!

I'm thinking of you and your little one.

I'm sorry. Thoughts and prayers and cyber chocolate (the no calorie but very very delicious kind) sent your way.

Sending good thoughts your way. And hugs to Merrick (and you, too).

Fingers crossed.

From a doc's wife's point of view? Your pediatrician is exercising due diligence. No need to officially panic until/unless the white coated ones signal it is time.

If you have any question you might miss that turning point (the Whitecoats sometimes lapsing into Medlish from English) you can ask the doc privately ahead of time to give you a signal like a finger to the side of the nose.

Otherwise I suggest you try to mostly relax and appreciate the immediacy and precious nature of life which has been sort of rudely called to the forefront of your heart. Crying a little counts as doing that naturally.

Your work as this stranger sees it is to be Matronly normal until some overriding need to be otherwise is demonstrated. I am betting Merrick will sincerely appreciate that and doing what is best for Merrick is the goal, yeah?

Crying (a little or a lot) is always okay when you’re scared. Especially when the fear concerns your children.
I have an extra heartbeat/skip that wasn’t discovered until I was in my 20’s. And it’s just the way my heart works – no problems at all.

Beth -- I'm assuming this will be Merrick's case, too! Thank you, Doc's wife and all the rest. . . xo

Too much drama = you are allowed to cry a bit. Good thoughts for Merrick and you comin' your way!

Oh Matron! You are in my thoughts, and I can't wait to see Mr. Merrick singing his "I love hotdogs" song again sooner rather than later! All good energy heading your way.
Had a similar thing happen to me when I was little. It turned out to be an innocent heart murmur. I am hoping the same for Merrick! Love to you all,
Betsy

Hugs, hugs, and good karma to you. You and your loving hubs have enough on your plates. Hope Merrick's little murmur turns out to be nothing big!

Geez oh petes. Like you need more stress and strain.

I was born with a heart murmur; I regret it never got me excused one bit from phys ed. No sympathy from anyone.

That said, I'm glad that Merrick can see a doctor so quickly to address his issue and to bring some clarity to the situation.

Chiming in to say that I bet it will all be okay, and try not to worry yourself too much. And here is a hug.

I hope it is nothing. Still, I'll worry alongside you until you tell us it's nothing for sure.

Oh my, I would be sick about that. I loved your interview at Motherscribe!

Can I just ditto what TexasDeb said? (((HUGS)))

I found your blog after reading your interview on Motherscribe. Very interesting. Hope your little one is ok. I've had my share of visits with pediatric specialists. Never even fun, and worst part is you always have to put on a good face. Good luck.

I'm going to say it's nothing, until it's something, but I don't think it will be something.

I'll send you all good thoughts and stuff - :0)

OH, Mary. Nothing like worrying over your child. The good news is that you heard it! I am thinking of you and Merrick, all of you. It WILL be OK.

And yes, the drama does seem to find you. I believe it is inevitable. But, sometimes the drama is good drama, no?

P.S. TexasDeb has it right.
