Matron: "Scarlett, your hair looks really nice pulled back like that."
Scarlett: "One hundred and four."
Matron: "One hundred and four what?"
Scarlett: "One hundred and four times you've said something
about me,
to me."
Matron: "Is that bad?"
Scarlett: "Let's just say we'd rather not get to one hundred and five, shall we?"

Ouch.
Jenn beat me to it! All I wonder is how she sounds if she gets really, really mad...
LOL. I love that kid.
All Righty Then Miss Thang!!
Sheesh. HOW old is she?
I might have had to remind her that though she is a princess - You are the Queen!

I would have been tempted to inform the Little Princess that your remark was a COMPLEMENT and she needs to learn to accept them with grace.
I'm confused. What is upsetting her? My teen daughter feels that the only acceptable subject of conversation is herself.
That cracked me up!!
She doesn't suffer fools? Get used to it, sister.
Bwahahaha, too funny. That's what you get for having such amazing kids :)
Oh, wow. This sounds so much like my 13 year old daughter, it scared me. Welcome to my world, isn't it fun?
Mary, please know that I would NEVER call Scarlett a little princess. It's too dismissive for such a complex intense person.
josey
She will keep you in line. But what a revelatory comment, eh?
Kind of like when my Girl would do something great, and I'd hear my husband saying, "You should be so proud of yourself" when inside my head I was saying, "I'm so proud of you."
I'm now very aware that, yes, she should be proud of her own self.
Oh Jocelyn - I like that! Thanks for the insight! I do that all the time, telling her how proud I am (worth comes from others) rather than helping her see that her value is self generated.
Today I will focus on myself and lead by example!!
Excellent topic MM.

(Im still the Queen)
She's 9 -- and yes, yes, that good old separation of Self and Child is always key!
She sounds tooooooo smart.
Oh my.....it's reading things like that that make me want to go and just hug the crap out of my boys. I'm so not sure I would have been able to handle the thinkings of a young woman-child.
If I ever have a daughter, this is the attitude I would like her to have
I love a girl who tells it like it is.
